My action plan for the next 2 weeks

I thought I would do myself an action plan so I know what I have got to do and I will be more organised and I will get it doen quicker.
  1. Edit first part of opening sequence.
  2. Storyboards for new part of opening sequence.
  3. Film new part, upload it
  4. Edit new part
  5. Put it with old part

After all this is done I will have my finished project!

Monday 16 March 2009

The last shot of the scene will be of the killer looking at the camera but the camera will be placed where the mirror is so the camera will be the mirror. This will just allow the audience to see him up close and personal and it will be intimate. It will also make the audience feel awkward as the killer will be staring right at them and it will be like the tables have turned but only for a moment.

This shot will make the audience feel like they are creeping up on him as he did the victim. It also plays with the feeling of not escaping. In the pictures he will have an angry face but the camera shots and editing will let the audience think other wise.

More Shots...

This shot is letting the audience see the character at every angle and showing that he cant escape what he has done, the audience are somewhat like the jury at a court case. It will let the audience engage more and feel very intimate close with him.

More Shots...

This one will let the audience know that he is the killer if they don't already but i see this shot in my head being very disoriented and fractured which will add to the intense atmosphere.

As he wont be thinking straight after killing someone it will portray his emotions.

Shots for the new scene....

I like this shot as it shows the mood of the film
"It makes me feel very awkward like he must be feeling, like something bad has happened or is going to happen." Gemma year 11
I also think it is a very intimate shot as you are seeing them as they see their selves.

Update....

Grant will not be in the opening sequence as he does not like being on camera but he does drama so I didn't really get that, I then asked Joe and he said that he cant do angry and then I asked George Jones and thankfully he said yes so I have my actor.I am going to start doing the storyboards Monday and then they can go on here.

I was really lucky because George will be able to pull it off as well as Grant and he looks more like jack who plays the killer at the beginning, the only thing is I still don't know where I am going to film this I think need to start looking in the toilets at school because I know some of them are badly lit and they look horrible and not many people go in the ones I have in mind so that means we can spend as much time in there as possible as we will not have any interruptions.

The New Scene....

I am looking forward to filming the new scene as I think it will make my opening sequence much more better and give it more of a chill and also I think it will make it seem more like a horror. I have my idea and I told Nina about it and she really liked it so it basically it means I got the green light for it and I can be on my way filming it.
I think I might have to use a different actor for this scene as I do not think jack who plays the killer will be able to pull it off. I have an idea who I want to use and I think I will be able to get away with it. This scene is going to be very intense and I know that I need to get someone who can act due to the fact that there will be close ups of their face and I need someone who will be able to show the emotion I'm trying to show and jack cant act very well so I am hoping and praying that Grant Clarke will be able to do it as he is a great actor and he has an edge to him and I think he will suit the scene more.
I have this scene pictured in my head and tomorrow I will start on the storyboards and then it will start to come alive and seem more real and not just like an idea in my head, the only thing is I am trying to think where the set would be I need to find a dark dingy bathroom or a place with a sink and mirror. I know I can make it look like that with tampering with the contrast but I do think it will help if the set itself is quite dark it will just add to the tension and the fractured feel.
I really hope this scene comes out like I plan and I know that if I do it right it will and my work will become a level 4-(excellent) which will be just great.

The Crit Lesson!

I found the crit lesson very helpful as people were very open with their opinions and they all really liked it. They all noticed things I had done to make it more creepy and noticed things I had done to make the audience feel uncomfortable. A fear I had was that they wouldn't recognise that it was about hate crime on homophobia, but they did get that and it was a big relief. Nina had alot of helpful criticism for me to make the film better. I am going to be adding an additional scene only 15-20 seconds long, it will tie it up better and be more understandable, I am also going to be making the text even smaller as she said that it is still a bit too big, I am also going to be making the title of the film stay on the screen 4 seconds longer as people thought that it was not on there long enough. Nina said that it was a level three but when the alterations have been done it will be a level four which was really good to hear as it meant that all the long hours I put in had paid off. I am going to start doing the alterations tomorrow and then Thursday I will start filming the additional scene and then finally get the film into a level four.
I also really enjoyed watching the other groups work, it was nice to see what they had done and see if I could get any ideas from them. I thought the whole class done really well and every ones work was different and had a meaning to it and none of us got lower than a level three we were all border lining level threes and fours.
It was my first crit and I was so happy to say that it went well and I did get some criticism but it's only to help but on the other hand I got alot of good feed back so it made me really happy.

Looking back on the editing!

We have had alot of trouble when doing the editing of the title sequence. We found that some of the footage didn't fit; the blood looked to pink and I was in some of the shot, so we had to re film but when it came to editing we saw that what Luke had done was film the wrong parts; he kept pressing play and pause at the wrong time. We thought we would sort it all out when we got on to final cut pro but when we got on to there we couldn't use it all; we didn't know that it muddles it all up and you have to put it back into order without letting the clips overlap so we started to loose seconds off the clips and it was adding them onto other clips so we had to go back to imovie. Once we had finished tweaking it and made played around with the contrast and added the music and played around with the pace of some of the scenes it really started coming along.
As we left it so long to start editing when the deadline was coming up it meant that we spent anytime we could in the editing suit.
The day before the deadline I spent six hours on it, getting everything done so that on the deadline day i didn't have much to do on it.
It wasn't later on in the editing that I wanted to use Se7en as inspiration due to the fact that when i was putting in the titles it started mirroring it and that's when I started looking more into it and basically used it as a guideline, it mad it so much easier for me. I didn't want to use it so much that I gradually i started loosing my own ideas and then it becomes Kyle Coopers work instead of my own.
when the day of the deadline came I Had nothing to worry about because all I had to do was just moves scenes around and i was done so I was alot more calmer. I was really happy with the final piece, I got Nina to watch it a she thought it was good but had places where I could improve it and i.e making the text smaller on some of the titles, changing the style of the text, making scenes slower. Once I had done that it did look even better and I liked it even more and had alot more confidence for it.
The editing alone was a long journey and I found it very challenging but Gerry helped me out alot and taught me so much about imovie. I think that the editing was the best part of the making of it.

The Presentation.....

Monday we have our presentation where we have to present our opening title sequences and our blogs and talk about them. I am really nervous but i know once i get started i will be alright. It's surprising but i ma looking forward to seeing what people think as i know that it will help me and i like knowing what people think and if it helps me then i cant moan. I am nervous what Nina will say and think of it and i am hoping she will be nice to me.

Looking deeper into the audience....

Thinking of a specific audience is quite hard but after long thought we finally know what it will be.
The audience will be 15-18 year old as they will be able to relate to the film more as it is about teenagers and what they go through with homophobia. The only problem with this is that teenagers do not always have money and may not be able to afford to go cinema but then when you go to the cinema the majority of the audience are teenagers, so they must be getting the money from somewhere.
